Volunteers make the mission of Habitat For Humanity possible!

We rely on volunteers like you to help families in need realize the dream of owning a decent, affordable home. From our construction and Charleston Habitat ReStore operations to providing lunch, planning special events, and committee work, we rely on volunteers for every facet of our organization.

In 2008, we had 2,151 people volunteer 16,164 hours. That is over twice as many as in 2007! According to Independent Sector, the dollar value of the time volunteers contributed was $250,865.28! THANK YOU!!!

VOLUNTEERING WITH CHFH:

Volunteer opportunities are on "As Needed" basis. We strive to schedule at least two weeks in advance for groups and one week to 24 hours in advance for individuals. Please review all our volunteer opportunities. Our hope is to find a way to get you plugged in where you are most comfortable and where you are most needed.

All first time volunteers must read and sign our liability waiver form.

Court-ordered & Community Service:
We welcome those with court-ordered and community service hours to help on our construction sites and in our ReStore. As long as you have a willing heart and a good attitude to do what is needed. Court-ordered and community service volunteers are responsible to document, record, and get proper signatures on paperwork each day service is completed.

For Youth Volunteers:

Any volunteer under the age of 18 must have a parent/guardian signature of consent on the Waiver Form in order to volunteer.

Youth ages 14 to 15 are welcome to volunteer with us; however, federal regulations prohibit them from working on or during general construction. They may engage in activities limited to landscaping, clearing lots, clean-up, and painting. Volunteers ages 14 and 15 must also be accompanied by an adult 25 years of age or older.

Youth ages 16 and 17 may perform general construction work, but may not engage in activities that involve the use of power tools, motor vehicles, demolition, excavation operations, roofing, or working from a height of six feet or more.
